CEMEX USA announced that its philanthropic arm, the CEMEX Foundation, has awarded grants to seven different nonprofit organizations across Arizona, and the funding is expected to help provide more than 130,000 meals for those in need and additional assistance to communities in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the last month, CEMEX representatives have presented grant checks from the CEMEX Foundation across Arizona to support food security and shelter programs by nonprofit organizations in Phoenix, Yuma and southern Arizona.
“COVID-19 has claimed lives, cost jobs, strained families and deeply affected our communities,” said CEMEX USA Regional President – Arizona Region David Nabavi. “CEMEX strives to be a good neighbor in the communities where we live and operate, and as a result of this pandemic, more and more of our neighbors need support. We are proud to be able to present these grants from the CEMEX Foundation to help give critical funding to nonprofit organizations that do so much for our communities.”
The CEMEX Foundation has awarded grants to the following organizations to support food security in Arizona:
St. Mary’s Alliance Food Bank in Phoenix.
Community-based organization helps feed those in need in Phoenix and throughout nine of Arizona’s 15 counties. The number of people requesting assistance from the organization has more than doubled as a result of the pandemic. The CEMEX Foundation grant helped secure more than 20,000 meals across the area.
Yuma Community Food Bank in Yuma, Ariz.
The grant helped provide more than 80,000 meals for those facing food insecurity in Yuma. Requests for assistance from the food bank have increased nearly 50% due to the pandemic and school closures.
Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona in Marana, Ariz.
More than 26,000 meals were distributed to children, seniors and families in need with the funding from CEMEX Foundation. The food bank supports isolated seniors and others who may need food assistance.
Grants were also awarded to the following nonprofit organizations that are working to combat homelessness and provide shelter for children and families:
Phoenix Rescue Mission in Phoenix.
The faith-based mission is facing an increasing need for assistance during the pandemic to support those facing hunger, homelessness, addiction and trauma. The organization is using the grant money to distribute food and household items to low-income families.
House of Refuge in South Mesa, Ariz.
Funding from the grant will be used by the faith-based nonprofit to provide food, shelter, stability and a safe place to heal to families that need support in South Mesa.
Phoenix Children’s Project in Phoenix.
Organization is dedicated to helping impoverished children become healthy and self-reliant adults. The nonprofit has seen an increase in need of personal hygiene products.
Hope Women’s Center in Phoenix.
The nonprofit supports at-risk women and teen girls with education, mentoring and support. The grant from the CEMEX Foundation will enable the organization to continue its services including free pregnancy testing, pregnancy resources along with provide resources to help meet material needs such as food, clothing, diapers, toiletries and utility assistance
The grants are part of a nationwide program established by the CEMEX Foundation to support efforts of nonprofit organizations in communities where CEMEX operates to combat the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic
